Memory is a material property of monofilament and fluorocarbon lines. Cold temperatures and long storage make it worse. The line retains the shape of the spool and resists laying flat — causing coils that cost casting distance and create uneven tension during the retrieve.
Fix: Stretch the line by hand before fishing, or switch to braid for near-zero memory. If running fluoro as a leader, keep it short and replace it seasonally.
